Mon Repos, on the coast of Bundaberg, supports the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland and has the most significant loggerhead turtle nesting population in the South Pacific region.

From November through to January, it is an amazing sight to see these huge creatures heaving their way up the beach to find a safe spot to dig a nest and lay their eggs. And then, some 6-8 weeks later (generally between January to March), you can witness the tiny hatchlings emerging from their sandy nests to scurry down the beach towards the sea.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service offer ranger guided turtle encounters throughout the Bundaberg turtle season, from November to March. Don’t miss their first moments, book now.

More people visit Mon Repos each year to watch nesting turtles and emerging turtle hatchlings. Turtles are easily disturbed if correct turtle watching guidelines are not followed. Parks Rangers and volunteers have the right to refuse entry or escort visitors if needed from the facility. Respect the natural environment and follow instructions and directives from the Parks Rangers and Volunteers regarding mobile phone use, torches and cameras.

Ranger guided encounters operate seven nights a week from November to March, excluding 24th, 25th and 31st December. Nesting turtles are best viewed after dark, from November to January and Turtle hatchlings are best viewed at night from January to March.

Please be aware that turtles are wild marine animals and we cannot guarantee you will see either nesting turtles or hatchlings, on occasional evenings turtles do not arrive.

Between the months of November to April from 6pm and 6am, public access to Mon Repos beach is CLOSED. Turtle viewing is through the Mon Repos Information Centre from 7pm November to March.

There are small opportunities to use a camera, the Rangers and guides will advise when this can happen.

BOOKINGS WILL CLOSE AT 4PM EACH DAY! Please ensure that you make your booking for the Mon Repos Nightly Turtle Encounter at your earliest convenience to ensure you are able to book your preferred date.

Infants (0-4) travel FOC (Free of Charge) but details must be included in the booking.
